Lanshan 1 & 2 vs Pro: What's the difference?
When we talk about lightweight hiking and bang for the buck, there's one name that comes up more often than any other: the 3F UL Gear Lanshan . It's become something of a cult classic in the hiking world, and rightfully so. But once you've decided on a Lanshan, the next question immediately arises: Should you get the standard version or the Pro version?
It's easy to think that "Pro" just means it's a little better or a little lighter, but the truth is that these are two fundamentally different tent designs. Choosing the wrong one here isn't just about a few grams here or there - it's about how you deal with condensation, how much time you want to spend on maintenance, and how you actually experience your night in the wilderness.
In this guide, we'll go over everything you need to know to make a logical and informed choice between the Lanshan 1 & 2 and their Pro counterparts.
The construction: Double wall vs. Single wall
The biggest difference between standard and Pro is how the tent is built, and here it is important to be precise.
Lanshan 1 & 2 (Standard) – Double wall tent
The standard version is a double-wall tent . This means that the tent consists of two separate parts : a separate inner tent and an outer fabric. The inner tent hangs inside the outer fabric, creating a gap between you and the outer tent wall. This is worth emphasizing, because the separate inner and outer tent construction is the standard model's great strength in wet conditions.
- The advantage: You get a clear barrier between the sleeping area and the surface where condensation normally collects, i.e. the inside of the outer fabric. If it gets damp during the night, it is usually the outer fabric that gets wet, not you or the sleeping bag.
- Consequence for the weight: For the 2-person version, the weight is about 1.2 kg , which is logical for a tent where you carry both a separate inner tent and outer fabric.
- Flexibility: You can separate the parts when handling, and the construction is generally more forgiving in wet conditions.
- Practical dimensions: For the Lanshan 2 Standard, the internal dimensions are stated at 220 x 110 x 120 cm , which is fine for two people who prioritize low pack weight, but without the same extra margin that the Pro version offers.

Lanshan 1 & 2 Pro – Single Wall Tent
The Lanshan 1 Pro (and 2 Pro) is essentially a single-wall tent . Here, the outer tent and the floor are combined into one unit, instead of having a separate inner tent and a separate outer fabric. So there is not the same double wall construction as in the standard model. This is precisely what distinguishes the Pro series from the standard version: you get a more integrated system, but also a solution where the outer fabric and sleeping area are not separated in the same way.
- The advantage: The construction saves weight by eliminating a separate inner tent and reducing the amount of materials and details. This is one of the main reasons why the Pro is lighter.
- Consequences of condensation: The downside is that you get closer to the surface where condensation forms. In a single-wall tent, condensation must be managed more actively with ventilation, tent placement and discipline in how you move around in the tent. If you brush against the canvas or get drips in high humidity, it will be noticeable immediately.
- Handling in practice: Pro is simpler and faster as a continuous system, but places higher demands when the weather is humid and the air is still.

Lanshan 2 Pro in khaki/brown design – same basic construction, but in a color that many prefer for more discreet camping in the forest and mountains.

The material: Silnylon vs the Pro version's fabric choice
It's not just the design that makes the difference, but also what the tent is actually made of. Here we see one of the biggest reasons why the Pro version is often perceived as more stripped-down and technical in its design.
For the Lanshan 2 Standard, the flysheet is made of 15D nylon silicone , with a stated water column of 5000 mm . It is a lightweight and functional solution for 3-season use, while the separate inner and outer tent construction helps to manage moisture in a forgiving way. The seams can also be taped at the factory, which is practical for most users.
For the Lanshan 2 Pro , the material is 20D Silnylon , and the model is also available in 20D Silpoly . It is worth noting, as the choice of material affects how the tent behaves in moisture, wind and varying temperatures.
- Strength: 20D fabric provides a good balance between light weight and reasonable durability for 3-season use.
- Silnylon: A proven choice for those who prioritize low weight and tough, tear-resistant fabric.
- Silpoly: An interesting option for those who want less stretch in wet weather and a fabric that holds its shape more consistently when humidity rises.
- Waterproofness: For the Lanshan 2 Pro, the water column is stated at 13,000 mm in the floor and 2000–2500 mm in the outer tent , which is completely logical for a lightweight 3-season tent where the floor must withstand significantly higher point loads than the roof and walls.
The Great Threshold: Seam Sealing
Here we come to the point where many hesitate. Since the Pro version uses double-sided silicone, it is not possible to attach factory tape to the seams. Silicone only sticks to silicone.
Standard: Comes with taped seams. This means that you normally do not need to seal the seams of the tent itself before use. However, if you want to be completely safe in harsh weather, it is wise to brush some silicone on the attachment points for the storm ropes, as this is a point that is subjected to more stress than the other seams.
Pro: Comes with unsealed seams. You will need to apply a silicone-based sealant (such as Gear Aid Seam Grip +SIL) to all critical seams of the flysheet yourself before using it in the rain.
Is it difficult? No. Is it a bit time-consuming? Yes. But for the serious hiker, this is often a seal of quality. By doing it yourself, you know it's done properly, and you get a tent that is completely waterproof in a way that taped seams (which can come loose after a few years) rarely match.

Seam sealing is a necessary step for all Pro models to ensure complete waterproofness.
Size and space: More than just weight
Many people think that choosing the Pro is just about weight, but there is another important aspect: space .
The Lanshan 1 Pro and 2 Pro are actually a bit more spacious than their standard counterparts, and for the Lanshan 2 Pro, the interior dimensions are listed at 230 x 120 x 120 cm .
- Length: The Pro models are longer at the bottom. This is a huge advantage for those over 185 cm. In a standard Lanshan it can be tight not to touch the inner tent with your feet or head if you have a thick sleeping bag and a high sleeping pad.
- Width: With an internal width of 120 cm, the Lanshan 2 Pro works for two people, but it is still a lightweight tent. So the question is not just whether two people can fit in, but how much margin you want for elbows, equipment and wet clothes.
- Height: 120 cm ceiling height makes a noticeable difference when changing clothes, sitting up or dealing with a rainy evening session in the tent.

The floor plan and height are crucial for your comfort during long rainy days.
Weight vs. Condensation Management: The Pragmatic Trade-Off
This is the crux of the decision. Lightweight is always about compromise.
Weight: The Lanshan 1 Pro weighs about 840-900g (depending on model year and seal), while the Lanshan 2 Pro is listed at 1050g . That difference doesn't come from magic, but mainly from the construction. When the standard Lanshan has both a separate inner tent and outer fabric, the total weight is higher. When the Pro instead uses a single-wall construction where the outer part and floor are attached together, a layer of material and several details disappear.
Condensation: In a double-wall tent like the standard Lanshan, condensation primarily settles on the inside of the outer fabric, while the inner tent helps keep you and your sleeping bag away from that moisture. In a single-wall tent like the Pro, condensation forms on the wall closest to you. This doesn’t mean the Pro is always wetter, but it does mean that condensation is more immediately noticeable and management becomes more important.
Our advice: If you hike a lot in humid environments, valleys with poor airflow, or if you're a beginner who doesn't want to learn the "art of ventilation," choose Standard. If, on the other hand, you prioritize light weight, accept that single-wall requires a little more care in humid conditions, and want a more stripped-down system, choose Pro.

The space in the Pro version is generous, which makes it easier when you want to keep your equipment away from condensation-soaked walls.
Who is which tent suitable for?
To make it simple, we've boiled it down to two profiles:
Choose Lanshan 1 or 2 (Standard) if:
- You want a tent that works right out of the box without any "tricks".
- You hate condensation and want a safe barrier between you and the moisture.
- You want the flexibility to use the inner tent separately on warm summer nights.
- You are a "normal" long walker.
Choose Lanshan 1 or 2 Pro if:
- You're chasing grams and want the lightest option that can still withstand tough weather.
- You are tall (over 185 cm) and need the extra length.
- You appreciate the craftsmanship of sealing seams yourself and want a tent with double-sided silnylon for maximum durability.
- You have experience camping and know how to choose a tent site to minimize condensation.
Summary
There is no right or wrong here, just different tools for different needs. The Lanshan series is fantastic no matter which model you choose.
